I enjoy these moments...
My little boy wakes up from his nap in the afternoons and waits for me to come and pick him up...He sleeps for almost 2 1/2 hours inside a closed room..His elder sister takes her nap in the other room so that they don't spoil each other's paradise. Our man finishes his nap and gives me squeaky sounds from the bed....this is a signal for me to reach him at once, stopping all my things, then and there !! If I don't, the boss calls out another time, in a voice which would scale upon all TV channels/water running from taps and so on..I never give him that chance..I race through the first call itself, simply because, there is the room heater to be preserved till this winter gets over, which could be dissected and turned upside down in a fit of fury, otherwise. There is the toilet commode which has stagnating water (western style) in an inviting blue color (which I sense is his favorite color..:) )...I have to save his hands from getting there, so on and so forth....When I get there, he is still in the same position as he was sleeping (beneath the blanket and his head on the small pillow)..he again says 'ammmmaaa'...I slide under the blanket and share the pillow with his tiny head..:)) He lies on top of me for some time and then lies down by my side for sometime.. He studies my face in the closest possible angle...tries to push open my eyes and force them to close...he counts the number of teeth inside my mouth, he pulls out my hair strand-wise to see if one is longer than the other (and if it did, it interests him more), he meddles with my nose pin and tries to pull out my mole (I have three of them on my face, one is a real dark one, which is his target)..He puts his tongue out with this sound - ayyyyyy...this is an indication that I should stick my tongue out too..Our little doctor has to see what makes a tongue - another interesting color to note in his palette ! It is hard to make him understand that these parts of my face are not removable. So, I just let him experiment and bear a little pain about the exercise. Frustrated that these won't come out, he would pinch my face all over with his tiny hands. What a pleasure that is! Absolute bliss, you know..my angel does not even know that he is harming me, neither does he understand that I get hurt and it pains me. The damage is more mine, if I don't trim his nails on time ( I don't risk this either !! )..When I exhibit slightest pain and move my face away from him, he thinks I am angry with him. It helps if I have a stern look on my face. He is 200% sure that I am mad at him..That calls for pacification...This is how : pulls me by my neck towards him (this is the closest any two people can get to each other) and puts his tiny mouth over mine...even a kiss on the cheek is not anywhere towards peace. It has to be a liplock !! We have to stay in that posture for atleast 5 seconds. If I attempt to say it is over and 'amma is not angry', there goes the exercise again :)) The toddler knows to run, jump, hop and climb..yet, after this episode, he has to be carried to the living room, where he finds his best toy and off he goes on his exploration..
What a small world do they have and how beautifully they make it interesting ! Child is the father of man, isn't it??!!

Nice one
ReplyDeleteoh! read not once but twice Jyotsna. Lying down with heads on son's pillow is so soothing, I used to go to sleep again with sons cuddled to me. Your writings about Pradhyum brought back those moments in my life too.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a delightful read!!
