Day 4 - Friday..
Quite an eventful day..
In India, everyday, we have about atleast 2-3 women visiting the golu. Here, in NJ, it is quite different. People have to think about the best time for travelling and visiting other houses..Quite a few natural reasons also are contributors - unlike in India, we don't have autorickshaws to just hop on and reach a place...there is a chill wave that starts hitting by around 5 or 6 PM..you cannot exit the house without jackets and scarves..there are no grandparents at home to take care of one day's dinner or babysitting kids, so you can dress up and meet friends, and so on..There is a lot of planning to be done even when you want to meet your friend who stays just two streets away. With all this, my friends came in today to meet our grand mini golu..:) Sundal was made in slightly large quantity to make enough portions for the friends to carry..Looked as if the entire navarathri was over on that one day..
I had made sundal out of black-eyed beans i.e kaaramani. It was tasty as usual (nobody can spoil such a simple recipe..:) )...My friends' share was neatly packed in ziplock covers.
Day 5 - Saturday :
Today was even more interesting..It was our turn to get ready to go meet other golus..About 3-4 houses..Mommy and daughty ventured into the collection campaign..neatly pressed silk saree/skirt for Harshitha..matching accessories and make up..the little one was pretty excited. We got some nice gifts in our tamboolam..Harshitha was happy to receive a couple of puzzles..She kept exploring with those.
At the home front, I had one other friend who came in. I was meeting her after almost more than a year and was nice catching up with a year's stories..Had made sundal out of peanuts..
Day 6 - Sunday :
Today, I had performed a small kanya poojai for my little girl..She had oil bath, dried with desi sambraani (the entire house smelled wonderful..:) ) We worship the little girl as Goddess herself. She had to sit on the floor (on a mat) and eat from a silver plate (as against banana leaves in India)..After a couple of prayers, water from the pooja was served to her first and then the food followed. Since it was a special day, I had made a sweet - payasam (kheer) made out of cashewnuts and almonds and green peas vadai. Harshitha gulped some 4-5 vadais and conveniently skipped her meal..whatever..THIS one day, her behaviour is excused, in all aspects..:)
The evening saw another visitor. It was fun listening to the singing and dancing the visitor had to offer to the golu. That evening snack was kadalai paruppu sundal..It tasted great..:)
